Academic writing is not always easy to understand. The arguments that researchers make in scholarly articles are part of larger conversations and case studies in our attempt to systematically understand the world. Sometimes we can sound overly critical or negative in the ways that we write, construct arguments, and provide evidence. At worst this writing alienates the larger public and discourages citizen science. Students and faculty at Purdue work to disseminate our research to a wide audience including fellow researches but also interested members of the public, students of all ages, and, especially, the communities where we work.
